Getting to Glasgow’s West End

Hillhead Subway Station is located at the top of Byres Road and Kelvinhall is right at the very bottom, allowing you easy access to the whole area without having to worry about parking. A return ticket from anywhere in Glasgow is only £3 and it takes approximately 15 minutes to travel here from the city centre.

Park & Ride is available at Bridge Street, Kelvinbridge and Shields Road stations, allowing you to park your car all day get a return journey on the subway for only £5.

The subway runs from 06:30am to 11:45pm from Monday to Saturday and from 10am to 6:12 on Sundays. Trains run every few minutes during peak times and 6-8 minutes during off-peak. Contact SPT for more information.

Bus

Several buses pass the top end and bottom end of Byres Road. Consult Traveline Scotland’s Journey Planner for a full list of services. Buses generally run later than the subway and allow you to travel beyond central Glasgow.

Train

The closest train stations are Hyndland and Partick. You can walk from Partick to the bottom of Byres Road in about 10 minutes. ScotRail can provide you with train times. If you are getting a train that will arrive at Glasgow Central or Glasgow Queen Street, the Buchanan subway station is just a short walk from both stations, which will take you straight to the West End.

Car

There are several metered car parks in the Byres Road area. At the University of Glasgow there is limited parking available on campus, so you may wish to plan for an alternative transport option.
